Unpasteurized cow’s milk is an incredibly important food. It contains a great mix of fats, carbohydrates, proteins, and other nutrients that support you from birth, all the way into adulthood. Now, biotechnology companies are attempting to cash in by producing fake milk. But as you’ll learn soon enough, it doesn’t hold a candle to the real thing — raw milk from grass fed cows. Lab-Made Milk Is Being Engineered to Replace the Real Thing A report published by Investigate Midwest looked into Brown Foods, a biotech startup claiming to have created the world’s first lab-grown milk, dubbed “UnReal Milk.” 1 • UnReal Milk is fully lab-grown — Unlike plant-based milk substitutes or fermented dairy analogs, this product is not made from soy, oats, or nuts. Instead, mammalian cells grown in controlled laboratory conditions are coaxed to produce the core nutrients found in cow’s milk. According to Brown Foods, their product mimics real milk at a molecular level and could quickly

In the rapidly evolving field of RNA therapeutics, circular messenger RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as promising candidates due to their inherent stability and resistance to exonucleases. Unlike linear mRNAs, circRNAs lack free ends, which traditionally complicates the recruitment of the translational machinery required for protein synthesis. However, recent innovations have addressed this limitation through novel […]

Lab-grown chicky nuggs could be a reality in our near future, as international researchers have produced over 10 grams of cultured chicken muscle. The team used a Hollow Fiber Bioreactor, which mimics a circulatory system to deliver nutrients and oxygen to artificial tissue, and a robot-assisted assembly system to produce bite-sized pieces of whole-cut chicken meat using chicken fibroblast cells, which make up connective tissue. While researchers say they’re still working to improve the taste and texture, the technology could one day provide a sustainable, ethical alternative to conventional meat, as well as a platform for regenerative medicine (like growing organs), and soft robotics.

arXiv:2504.05421v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Rocking or wave-mixed bioreactors have emerged as a promising innovation in the production of cultivated meat due to their disposable nature, low operating costs, and scalability. However, despite these advantages, the performance of rocking bioreactors is not well characterized in view of their relatively short history in the market and the wide range of geometrical and operating parameters. In the present study we develop a rigorous computational framework for this multiphase, multi-physics system to quantitatively evaluate mixing, oxygen transfer, and shear stress within a rectangular rocking bioreactor under various operating conditions. This framework is implemented using the Basilisk open-source platform. We use a second-order finite volume Navier-Stokes solver and a volume-of-fluid interface reconstruction scheme to accurately resolve the highly nonlinear fluid motion. By solving the advection-diffusion equation for a multi-fluid

Have you ever wondered what's in the slimy, watery liquid that surrounds raw chicken in its packaging? Is it just water, or are there hidden chemicals in there? When you're standing in the grocery store aisle, examining packages of chicken breasts, thighs, and drumsticks, what you see is just the final product. What remains invisible are the numerous chemical processes that conventional chicken undergoes before reaching your shopping cart. If you're someone who carefully selects nontoxic cleaning products for your home, you might be surprised — and concerned — to learn about what's used to "clean" the chicken on your dinner plate. Most of us have become disconnected from our food system. We purchase neatly packaged meat without understanding the journey it took to reach the store shelf. This disconnect has allowed industrial chicken processors to implement practices that prioritize efficiency and shelf life over consumer health and animal welfare. As someone who runs a
